Josiah Cartwright was moved to write this brief devotion whilst reading Thomas Manton on Ps119:59. As he meditated upon the words of Manton, he examined his own ways and how it might be that he could turn his feet into the Lord's testimonies.

Josiah Cartwright was a 17th century Scottish pastor. It is believed he was a brother-in-law if Samuel Rutherford. His devotions have a pastoral warmth reminiscent of the great Puritan era he was part of.

Josiah Cartwright's devotion presents Psalm 15 as a solemn call to consider the holiness of God and the righteousness required to dwell in His presence, tracing each demand of the psalm back to God’s own character rather than human virtue. It leads the reader to recognise their sinfulness, embrace God’s mercy as David knew it, and finally see the psalm’s fulfilment in the One who perfectly embodies its righteousness.
